In this module, you will critically explore how media representations are constructed and manipulated. You will examine semiotics, framing, and context, understanding how these elements influence perception. The course will also address the social and cultural impacts of altered imagery, focusing on the concept of authenticity and the ethical considerations of image manipulation, while reflecting on historical perspectives of visual content authenticity.

You will gain practical skills in photography, learning to control key technical aspects like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and colour temperature. You will also explore the use of natural and artificial lighting to create specific moods, alongside composition techniques such as focal length and depth of field to enhance your imagery.

The module also introduces you to Adobe Photoshop, starting with basic tools and non-destructive editing techniques. You will advance to more complex methods like masking and compositing, developing a cohesive photographic project. Finally, you will manage workflows and deadlines, preparing your work for an online portfolio to showcase your skills as both a photographer and an image-maker.

The module will provide you with a core set of skills which will enable them to become proficient in academic reading, writing, speaking and listening. You will take part in lectures, seminars, group work and structured academic writing to allow them to practice the necessary academic skills needed for your future programs. You will develop critical thinking skills through tasks such as text analysis and in-session group discussion tasks and the ability to construct coherent academic assignments, including written essays and presentation work. You will become familiar with key academic skills and concepts such as referencing methods, awareness of academic integrity and academic tone and can apply these skills and knowledge to both generic topics initially and to your own chosen subject pathway. You will be guided in assignment organisation, structure, style and content so you are able to apply these skills across subjects and modules in your undergraduate degree. In terms of course content and materials we will ensure that we meet the guidelines of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Act. The course will present opportunities for you to develop confidence and speaking abilities as well as incorporating technology into lessons and maintaining a student–centered approach that allows for cross-cultural collaborative learning, problem-solving and teamwork.

The aim of this module is to provide you with an introduction to the complexities of management and leadership in the contemporary global business environment. As future senior managers, you will reflect on your own skills and competencies, identifying the skills and knowledge that you need to develop and advance your career as a successful leader. You will become familiar with key aspects of leadership and management that will enhance your understanding of business and help you to progress on your chosen master's programme. You will begin this module by exploring the global workplace context and consider some of the key issues that affect businesses long-term success and their impact on the wider environment. Issues concerning staffing organisations and the on-going challenges of skills and labour shortages will be addressed. The ethics session will encourage you to consider what is ‘right’ and the important role that you have in shaping the future of business. You will be encouraged and supported in developing a critical mindset and in questioning your own values and attitudes. As an international student, you will be encouraged via group work and class discussions to share your own experiences and reflections on global workplaces. EDI will also be explored within the framework of people management and we will consider how equality law and practice varies in countries across the world. You will explore how there is no one single ‘best’ approach to leadership and management and this is determined by the environment and circumstances. This module will introduce you to the topic of ethics in business and the importance and value of ‘doing the right thing’. The English and Research for Master’s programme aims to focus you intensively on language improvement and the development of independent academic study skills appropriate to master's level. By the end of the module, you will have embedded existing English language skills within the specialist professional language, literature and vocabulary of your own discipline, showing confidence and diversity in their vocabulary, contextualisation and interpretation. This module will provide further practical experiences in the integration of English for academic purposes (including source analysis, critical thinking, discourse, comprehension and communication) and provides students with opportunities for you to apply these skills within a professional context. You will be given the opportunity to utilise the academic and language skills on the course to ensure a broadening of your knowledge base and cognitive skills ready for master's level study. The aim of this module is to provide you with an introduction to the topic of organisational behaviour which is vital in understanding how contemporary businesses operate. This module will help you in understanding how organisations have developed and to consider how they may look in the future. You will also explore what influences people’s behaviour when working independently, as part of a team and in the wider organisation. There is a particular emphasis on managing and leading people in businesses and you will explore your own approach to leadership, identifying what skills you should develop in order to become a successful manager. This module is useful in helping you to understand the important role of people within the organisation and how their performance impacts on other areas of business, such as Finance, that you will also study on this programme. Beginning this module by exploring the global workplace, you will consider some of the key issues that affect businesses long-term success and their impact on the wider environment. The ethics session will encourage you to consider what is ‘right’ and the important role you have in shaping the future of business. Students will be encouraged and supported in developing a critical mindset and in questioning their own values and attitudes. This module provides you, as an international student, with a core set of English skills to become proficient in academic reading, writing, speaking and listening whilst integrating successfully into London as a city, full of unique experiences with exciting social and cultural diversity. 


Running through the academic year (for 3 terms), you will be able to establish your individual proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and listening and foster your learning within social, cultural and academic contexts. You will develop your understanding of London, its monuments, cultural institutions and city regions and improve your confidence in English language. 


Each week in Term 1, you will both experience architecture, sculpture, painting and contemporary fashion, business and creative regions, and receive an introduction to academic texts, academic language and referencing relevant to UK higher education. In Term 2 & 3, you will develop your understanding of the character of the city, whilst you further develop the skills and experience to actively take part in workshops, visits, lectures, seminars, group work and academic writing, practising those abilities you will most benefit from for your future study. Through the programme, you will visit London's museums, commerce and lifestyle sites alongside less well-known sites, off the 'tourist trail'. 


Exploring contemporary debates on urban living, you will see London with your own eyes, using your own cultural understanding and lived experience. You will understand how business and culture drive creative and academic knowledge. This module will develop your critical thinking, analytical skills, and practical confidence to explore. 


During the module, you will develop your critical thinking skills through tasks such as text analysis and in-session group discussion tasks, and the ability to construct coherent academic assignments, including written essays and presentation work. It has been specifically designed to develop the drive and curiosity to excel in study in the UK. Led by the School of Continuing Education, the module is taught by experienced tutors, specialising in international education. 


By the end of this module, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate both your future undergraduate study and London as a city, with critical and reflective thinking and renewed spoken English language skills and confidence.

The module will provide international students with a core set of skills which will enable them to become proficient in academic reading, writing, speaking and listening. For many, it will be an introduction to academic texts, academic language and referencing. They will take part in lectures, seminars, group work and structured academic writing to allow them to practise the necessary academic skills needed for their future programmes. They will develop critical thinking skills through tasks such as text analysis and in-session group discussion tasks and the ability to construct coherent academic assignments, including written essays and presentation work. They will become familiar with key academic skills and concepts such as referencing methods, awareness of academic integrity and academic tone and register and have the opportunity to apply these skills and knowledge to both generic topics initially and also to their own chosen subject pathway. The class will allow for opportunities to practice and develop spoken and written English skills, within an academic context. They will be guided in assignment organisation, structure, style and content so they are able to apply these skills across subjects and modules in their undergraduate degree.

The study of mental health is a major focus of theory, research and practice in psychology. This module is designed to stimulate critical thinking about current conceptualisations of mental health and ill-health as well as issues associated with diagnosis and treatment. You will learn about factors which impact on individual and societal experiences of mental ill-health. This module will cover a range of topics exploring biopsychosocial perspectives on the aetiology and maintenance of common mental health disorders. You will learn to evaluation of treatment effectiveness. The aim of the module is to develop mental health literacy by examining and critically evaluating a broad range of perspectives on mental health on the one hand, and to enhance practical research skills on the other hand.

This module is intended to provide you with an introduction to key historical and conceptual issues pertaining to the study of psychology including scientific beginnings and ethical developments, together with modern day applied issues in the study of psychology, integrating foundational knowledge with skills for personal and professional development. You will critically examine the historical evolution of psychology, assessing its impact on contemporary knowledge and methodologies. Through the analysis of case studies in individual differences, social and health psychology, you will evaluate theoretical, methodological, and ethical dimensions, applying these insights to current issues in the field. The module also emphasises the application of psychological theories and research in personal and professional contexts. It fosters an understanding of individual differences and psychological measurement, preparing students for evidence-based practice across diverse settings. You will engage with case studies drawn from a range of applied areas of psychology and apply these to their own learning and development. By developing skills essential for Master’s-level study, including ethical conduct, critical evaluation of theoretical and methodological approaches, and systematic understanding of historical influences, you will also critically reflect on your strengths, weaknesses, and professional identity. This foundation equips them to navigate a range of professional psychology pathways with key skills and adaptability.
