Biologists apply the scientific method to investigation, problem solving, and research. This module introduces students to key facets of the scientific method; concepts that you will encounter repeatedly throughout your degree. For example, you will learn about the power of reasoning and logic when considering and debating contentious issues, and the many complexities of taking measurements when collecting data for an empirical study. Thus through this module you will develop 'scientific literacy' - the capacity to use scientific knowledge - to identify questions and draw on evidence-based conclusions in order to understand and help make decisions about the natural world. During your degree, you will need to learn efficiently and effectively in order to maximise your development, and in turn your employment prospects. This module tutors you in learning how to learn both from your lecturers, from your peers and from yourself. In turn, this module prepares you for the workplace by encouraging you to reflect on the transferable skills you are developing as a student of science.
