The module provides you with some foundation for the study of the English Legal system. In taking the module, you will examine how legal rules are made and applied. The module will also help you to be familiar with some of the special vocabulary of the law and introduce you to essential skills of the legal profession. For example, how to read legal cases and Statutes (Acts of Parliament). You will also learn about some of the key institutions and processes that make up what we understand as the English Legal System.
The module will be taught at an introductory level using different teaching methods, and it will lay a foundation in understanding aspects of the legal process, therefore, it will be beneficial for those that want to study a degree in Law. The key features of English Common Law, Precedent, Statute Law, Separations of Power, an unwritten Constitution, trial by Jury and the rule of Law, to create a dynamic and resilient legal system will be explored.

The module will provide you with a core set of skills which will enable them to become proficient in academic reading, writing, speaking and listening. This module provides you, as an international student, with a core set of English skills to become proficient in academic reading, writing, speaking and listening whilst integrating successfully into London as a city, full of unique experiences with exciting social and cultural diversity.
Running through the academic year (for 3 terms), you will be able to establish your individual proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and listening and foster your learning within social, cultural and academic contexts. You will develop your understanding of London, its monuments, cultural institutions and city regions and improve your confidence in English language.
Each week in Term 1, you will both experience architecture, sculpture, painting and contemporary fashion, business and creative regions, and receive an introduction to academic texts, academic language and referencing relevant to UK higher education.
