This module offers a comprehensive exploration of key career and employability skills essential for success in today’s workplace. It is designed to help students develop a strong understanding of career pathways, job search strategies, and professional development, while focusing on the practical application of these skills. Students will enhance their career literacy, learning how to navigate different career options, develop effective job search strategies, and plan for long-term professional growth. Key workplace competencies such as time management, teamwork, communication, diplomacy, negotiation, and managing workplace relationships will also be emphasised. The module will help students master the art of punctuality, collaborate effectively in teams, express themselves clearly, and manage workplace dynamics with confidence. The programme will be delivered through a combination of lectures, group activities, and problem-solving sessions, with a strong focus on real-world scenarios. Authentic assessments will mirror workplace environments, providing students with hands-on experience in applying the skills they have learned. Practical exercises and case studies will foster a deeper understanding of the competencies needed in professional settings. In addition, guest lectures from industry professionals will offer valuable insights into how these skills are applied across various career fields, helping students connect theoretical knowledge with practical application in their future careers.

The virtual internship module will involve a mix of interactive online activities, project-based work, and authentic assessments that simulate real-world scenarios. Students will work on virtual team projects, engage in problem-solving exercises, and analyse case studies, all designed to provide hands-on experience and a deep understanding of the skills required in a digital work environment. Students will work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams to address challenges faced by the University of Roehampton or local SMEs relevant to their field of study. Modelled on the collaborative 'We-Work' environment, this setup will create a dynamic, shared space for learning and innovation. Students will develop essential skills such as teamwork, strategic thinking, and effective communication through hands-on problem-solving. This practical experience will not only enhance their skill sets but also provide a realistic view of the challenges and rewards of working in small to medium-sized enterprises. The module will be delivered through a blend of group projects, workshops, and interactive sessions. These activities will simulate real-world scenarios, offering students practical experience in tackling issues and implementing strategic solutions. This 30-credit placement module provides students with the opportunity to apply their skills in a real-world business environment, gaining valuable hands-on experience while engaging in academic reflection. Through the programme, students will work directly with a business, gaining insights into its daily operations and management practices. They will have the chance to identify areas for improvement, contribute to real projects, and develop a deeper understanding of business processes. This practical experience will be essential in helping students build their credentials as future managers or business leaders. The placement is tailored as much as possible to align with each student’s interests and career aspirations, while also meeting the needs of the host organisation. Students will have the opportunity to apply existing knowledge and skills while acquiring new ones, enhancing their employability and industry readiness. Placement Preparation workshops are also included to equip students with key soft skills, pitching techniques, and research methods, ensuring they are fully prepared to secure and maximise their placement experience in a leading organisation.
