Summer 2026 Research Project (SET-L050-0)
Summer 2026
Academic Year: Academic Year 2025-2026
This module requires you to work on a contemporary research project which strikes a balance between academic research and real-world problem-solving, ensuring you will develop the qualitative and quantitative research skills needed for the industry, whilst also improving communication skills and the use of technology.
Instead of a traditional dissertation, you will develop a research-led project the findings for which are engaging, accessible, and applicable to industry settings. There are three options for this research project:

Option A: Consultancy Focused Project
You will work on an industry defined brief (actual or simulated). You will adopt a consultancy stance, scoping the problem and proposing solutions. You are required to apply for the brief you prefer, explaining why you are interested in the topic. Outputs for this option are:
• Strategic proposal and reflective log
• Presentation

Option B: Entrepreneurial Focused Project
You will propose an entrepreneurial capstone project, either refining a business idea or developing a spin-off concept from the ‘Management of Engineering Innovation’ module, after submitting a short pitch for approval. Outputs for this option are:
• Strategic report and reflective log
• Presentation

Option C: Applied Research Project
You will choose a topic relating to an industry challenge from a list of topics, after submitting a narrative explaining why you are interested in the topic. Outputs for this option are:
• Technical report and reflective log presentation.
